About Standard League

Hello everyone.

I was trying to find, if possible, a game similar to PoE, there's even a post of mine here talking about that.
I realize that no game within the genre is like PoE so i was thinking that, for several reasons like feeling behind because i don't have many hours of the day to play the game or i can't play every day, I should go to the Standard League, i think that it would be better than to just leave this game.

I understand that now PoE2 is the new baby on stage, i played it for a bit but it didn't keep me interested for long.
I don't know the GGG plans for PoE1 going forward, i hope they keep it alive and available to players that want to enjoy that game or to go back to it at some point even if only for nostalgia.
GGG should respect their legacy.

I was wondering what the Standard League does differently than the live season or league?
At one point the current league will be part of Standard as well what does that imply for the characters of the players already playing Standard league? Do they also have to start from the beginning or they just keep playing?

About builds for Standard is there any good website with builds for that league?

Standard is the "home base" or "catch all" if you will. It is a permanent league where all of the temporary leagues when they end characters and items are migrated into. It has its own economy, culture, etc.

As far as builds are concerned I'll speak from my own experience and how I play standard. Since standard does not expire, my characters and builds are typically tapered all to one specific function or purpose, maximizing the potential of so many character slots.

Standard for me also has a lot of longevity, setting goals such as getting my first mirror, are much more feasible for me on standard vs. a temporary league because I am no longer under a time constraint or an economy that tends to grow and die in a shorter amount of time.

I look at standard like a sandbox.

The reason that i think that Standard would be a good place for me is the reason that you mentioned, longevity, it doesn't expire, you can aim to achieve goals that otherwise i couldn't dream of doing in a normal league and again i'm not saying that it's the game's fault, it's just me as a player maybe i'm more suited to standard league since it's something that i can take on at my own pace.

Some people here and on discord are telling me that Standard wouldn't be a nice place for me to be since the economy is bloated, it's more difficult to trade, no challenges available for free cosmetic rewards (i can live without this one) and no new league mechanics... Maybe I'm 100% wrong but many seem to look at Standard as a bad thing.

Trade prices in standard are 2-3 as high as in a new league.
In std trade exists some old items (called legacies) which can't be dropped any longer, so some items are stronger.

The actual league mechanic is not available in std, but other things are the same - it's the same client.


My advice for new players is play actual league - if it is "alive"!
More players, lower prices, league mechanic.

Settler league is very empty now, maybe like std.
Prices are a little lower than std but much higher (2x) than in settler's active time.

Only some special event leagues are "void" - means all characters and items are lost when event league ends.
"Normal" leagues chars transfer to std when league ends, so there's no differnce:
All ends in std.

if you play standard theres nothing to stop you also playing leagues since everything you get in the league comes back to standard at the end.

so a league is just like a temporary bubble where one of your characters and the gear you get is seperate from your 'main' set of characters and gear for a few months.




i play standard, i trade in standard all the time. it is a mature economy tho. if you find it easier to trade in a league then play the league, trade, take it back with you at the end, keep playing your characters in standard after. i usually have many chars on the go at all times, 5, 10+, most of them in standard with maybe 1 or 2 in the current league who are there to have a bit of fun, maybe get some fun toys to bring back to standard.


if you care about standard, if thats your home, then you can play in all main leagues, temps, hardcore, ssf, anywhere, cause all your characters and items can be transferred back to standard. ive got characters i created in standard in 2013 who i still play now and even still have a couple of items on that they originally worse back in 2013 when i first made them. they also have gear that i made in 2024 on, and stuff from all sorts of eras and leagues in between.


i love standard because it means everything in the game has meaning for me, i can play anywhere and no effort ive ever put in has disappeared. im still benefitting from things i did 12 years ago, theyre still part of my journey in poe and always will be as long as the game exists.

I was also wondering about this and maybe you can share some light about this, what does GGG has planned for PoE1? I understand that now PoE2 is like the new queen of the prom but what does the future hold for PoE1? Will they keep it alive?

I hope they will keep PoE1 around, i think that players will always go back to it even if it's only for nostalgia reasons.
PoE1 deserves to be preserved and cherished, it's GGG's legacy.

Based on my own experiences and observations over the last 5 years this is my summary of the future.

POE 1 and POE 2 will both have leagues every few months timed in a way that we can ping-pong between both games. Sounds good in theory anyway.

Edit - Feel free to add me in game if you want a mapping partner/someone to chat with. I have plenty of support characters for playing in a dou/party.
