The subject matter of this game would NEVER get a rating below M, so consider it to be an M game.

the spell detonate corpse by itself earned the game an M rating. like there is no way around it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it earned an M rating in America. The OFLC (New Zealand's rating authority) would probably rate it Mature, or possibly even restrict it on age (such as R16, being restricted to ages 16+).

Yeah, Diablo 2 pulled an M rating, so im sure this would. Although the rating system HAS gained lenience over the years (eg. Metal Gear Solid getting an M and Uncharted 1/2/3 getting a T)

I understand the Aussie gaming codes are quite strict ( the big goofy neighbour country to NZ ). Many gory and violent games have been banned there, or threatened to. It just seems strange to have such a violent game come out of an area neighbouring a notorious anti violent gaming country. It's like building a strip bar next to nunnery.

New Zealand has some rather strict censorship regulations, as well.

Here is a article on New Zealand video game ratings http://www.consumer.org.nz/reports/video-game-censorship/censorship-laws
Apparently video games in New Zealand do not require labeling. That this game is distributed exclusively through the internet (no retail sales) and is not sold as a product means it might not even require an official rating anywhere. However my personal stance is that any ratings are a guideline to help parents (mostly) decide what their children can or can't play. So by that account I would suggest this game get a suggestive rating of M or even the equivalent of R16 (the meaning of a rating varies from country to country). But no actual legal enforcement is necessary. N.B. These are my personal views and not necessarily those of GGG. Level Designer/Dungeoneer

Ratings are only required if a physical box copy is sold in stores. Even with physical copies, most countries don't require games to be rated but merely recommend it. It's usually retail stores like WalMart and Gamestop that require games to rated before they will consider selling them.
Because PoE will be digitally distributed only, it will not require a rating in any country that I can think of. That being said, as PoE becomes more popular I think it would be a good idea have the game rated anyway so that parents are better enabled to make appropriate decisions. Including a paragraph in the EULA explaining why PoE is intended for an older more mature audience would also be a good idea. Maybe even a separate "for parents" page on the website similarly explaining PoE and why it is intended for a mature audience. These are courtesies that I think would be appreciated and may help to cover PoE's back legally just in case someone decides to get upset in the future. Forum Sheriff
