Impale damage vs physical damage reflection immunity
Hi there,
Recently I've bought That Which Was Taken jewel with "Cannot take reflected physical damage" modifier to mitigate monster impaling threat. My line of thinking Was "If impale damage is considered reflected damage then I should not take that damage with TWWT". I've run an impale map recently and I was impaled (status icon appeared). I thought that maybe it is like with "You take no damage from poison" where you still can take stacks of poison but it doesn't do any damage. But no - the damage intake skyrocketed. I can say that with confidence cause i use Petrified Blood and the damage that is being mitigated is visible on the health sphere. Could somebody tell me if there is a bug or something and how exactly impale damage works? Is there a solid way to mitigate the problem except from Protection mastery? "I think it should work. "It is impossible to say for sure only visually on the health sphere. Last edited by seaman#4993 on Nov 27, 2024, 1:08:35 PM

How do you know you are taking damage from the impales though?
The same question comes up quite often with those other example you have listed, which is a good parallel. People with not affect by bleed/poison/ignite say they are still taking damage from them, but often it is another source of DOT. Impale damage is a bit harder to isolate and test, because the impale damage is linked to the recorded damage from the hit. Which is why I ask how you know the damage is coming from the impales? I'm not certain how it works, but it seems to me the description you have given is probably correct, because you are not immune to impales, you are just not taking reflected damage. Can the impale damage itself be converted to elemental? After the magnitude of the impale is recorded? I don't think so, because it is after the damage conversion calculations, since the physical damage taken needs to be know to calculate the impale. Not certain how it works though.
