Now is the perfect time to upgrade your PC for PoE 2!
AMD recently released their new gaming flagship, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, resulting in a lot of people upgrading from their previous builds. Pair this with the upcoming release of Nvidia's 5000 series, plus 4000 series refresh, and the market for used hardware has rarely looked this good. You can now acquire fairly potent builds, i.e a Ryzen 3600 or 5600X (better: 5700X3D, 7600X3D, 7800X3D) for good money. Just earlier last week I saw some local listings for 5800X3D + RTX 3070 builds for as low as 600€ - that's both cheaper than a new PS5 "Pro" and also significantly more powerful!
This is also great news for anyone who considers grabbing a cheap used upgrade for PoE 1 or similar. Players who are currently already struggling in areas like the Rogue Harbor, i.e low fps and UI flicker, will likely continue to struggle in PoE 2. Optimization on GGG's end aside, playing on 8+ year old hardware in 2024 and beyond just doesn't cut it anymore. PoE releasing a decade ago doesn't mean your GTX 1050 + "somewhat recent Intel processor" from 2016 are still relevant. Remember, the game updates and advances, incorporating new technologies on the way, your old hardware remains stagnant and becomes obsolete. On that note, personally I'd advise against Intel CPU's right now - AMD's offering is simply superior in every way possible and has been for a while. As for GPU's, both Nvidia and AMD are fine, pick one based on your desired resolution and refresh rate. DLSS is amazing though, though we don't know if either DLSS or FSR will be a thing for PoE 2. Best of luck and happy gaming! Last bumped on Nov 11, 2024, 9:19:03 AM
