monsters with elemental reflection even though the map doesnt

so I was running a map. the map mods didn't say elemental reflection. I came across a rare and died. I randomly die in this game so didn't think anything about it. went back into the map and almost died just getting near the rare. I highlighted the rare with my mouse to see what the rare had. it said extra life and extra chaos. after killing the rare I moved on and ran into two magic monsters that did the same. can anyone tell me what is happening. I do have a short video saved of it. but it wont let me add or says its broken link. so to give more details. it was on a t16 map and I am running a rightous fire variant build. whenever the rare (and later the magic) monster got in range of rightous fire area of affect, I would start taking damage. at the monsters feet there was a buff like symbol of yellow that kind of looked like a grid. I also have firestorm as a skill and when the monster was hit with that I didn't take any damage just when they where in my rightous fire.

Monster specific reflect is long gone I'd guess it was executioner personally which looks like a dark red ring around a monster and you can't heal to above 50% while in it - when you are playing RF type characters this makes it look like you are taking huge damage as soon as you step in the radius when realistically its just turned your regen off until 50%.

DoT damage can't be reflected anyway so all I know for certain without a clip is it wasn't reflect related unless the map specifically had reflect rolled on it.

Glancing at your character I feel like you have very low hp and negative chaos res still which will get you one shot by those fairly often - however I didn't load the build into PoB or anything so forgive me if I missed how you were getting those.
Yeah it's not reflect, but there's tons of stuff that can turn off your healing.

I don't believe it is, I have run into it on a scoured map and a magic map with a few unrelated mods.
The mob you described sounded like the Invulnerability aura mod.

What do you mean? There's no mods on mobs that do this? Racecourse boss had it, but they removed it some time ago, I believe during or the patch after Maven was added into the game.

What makes you guys think it is reflect, other than you are suddenly taking massive damage? That also happens when you get reflected, but doesn't mean it is reflect. You can still take reflected damage, like impale, but random mobs don't reflect your damage. That would make HC basically unplayable for the majority of hit builds, or require very specific attention, which is not in the game.

What op is describing, is they think the damage over time is reflecting based on the proximity. Which as stated by one of the responses, damage over time does not reflect, so it is something else that feels like reflect, but not reflect.

Most likely it is something like what was suggested, entering a certain radius of the mobs aura, like executioner, and healing becomes disabled.

It may also be that fire res is being dropped dramatically. Have not looked at OP's build, but if they do not have significant over capped fire res, getting a combination of scorched, fire exposed, cursed can make you take magnitudes more fire damage than you normally would be. Phoenix boss also does something like this, lowering your max fire res.

Having played RF to 100 on HC, I can tell you there is a lot of random stuff that can turn off your healing. I don't know what OP is describing, but there are a lot of bosses that have mechanics that disable recovery. There are other things as well. There is a delirium mod that puts a ground debuff that does this, and it's hard to see. There are others.

There's also a good chance this is a combination of things. The aura could be as above stated, invulnerable mod or something, then there is something else doing damage over time. OP has the video if they want it analysed. It's unfortunate that you can't learn the game realistically by moussing over mods and seeing what they do. That is the design of the game. Unless they add in death logs, recording and play back or the player giving an accurate description are the only way to figure it out.

Something I can suggest to OP, if running into this a lot, is having a flask that turns off burning on use. This will disable you RF self burn, making you have a sudden massive amount of positive regen. It's not generally needed, and can be annoying, because your damage gets turned off, but it is a defensive option if you need it. Having a second damage skill, like fire trap, will also allow you do to some content that might be tough otherwise. If for example, you are having trouble not touching the Maven beams, it is possible to do this section with just fire trap. Sirus degen is another one and exarch. It's not as prevalent in maps, but if you run into something like this on a certain map put the flask on. If it doesn't help, then you are taking DOT from something else, like maybe chaos dot, bleed, CB, poison, increased damage taken mods, could be all sorts of things. Your auras could be getting disabled if you have any as well.

(Had a quick look at your character page, looks like you are not playing RF but are using it for the bonus spell damage. In this case having a way to turn it off might be useful. The build looks fairly well constructed at a glance, so I think you are just running into something you are not use to, like executioner. Any time you are using RF, this is the sort of thing you can run into. People make it out to be a simple walking simulator, but it has a bit more complexity to it. You are taking 90% of your health as damage constantly, if all parameters are not met to mitigate this, you are going to go from full health to 0 in a second.)
