How to farm Boss Fragments?

The specialized maps that drop Fragments for all the bosses. Shaper, Eldger, Sirus, ect ect. How does one go about farming for them?
Are the maps they come from Random drops, and you need to get lucky? Are there nodes on the Atlas tree to target farm? Do specific maps drop them?

I am aware I can buy them from the trade site. I am trying to understand where they come from and how to get them myself. So far I have 3/4 of most of the boss Fragments. It has been over 100hr this season already and I haven't fought any of the non Map terminal bosses yet. Feels like I am doing something wrong or overlooking something.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey there. Not sure which bosses your talking about specifically but most of all of them can be farmed and I believe the Atlas has nodes to improve the drop rates. Try Google searching the fragments since you have access to the trade site and I think the wiki may help you. The official wiki not the sketchy one. Sorry I can't be of more help here.

No boss in particular, just any. I have parts of the "Key to the Cruicible" (Shaper), "Key to Decay" (Red Elder?), and "Crest of the Elderslayers" (Sirus). All from the Special maps that drop while I was playing.

My issue is, after playing as much as I have, I haven't fought any of these bosses yet. Making me think there is a better way to farm maps for the guardians. I still need to unlock more Favored map slots.

Everyone tells me to just buy it, which is understandable. I want to farm for the items for the first time at least though. That is how I play. No matter what it is, I use it or farm it the first time, then I can buy it. Otherwise I wont understand how it works.
Thats pretty simple.

Allocate the nodes in the northern section of the atlas to drop more Guardian maps, such as Vivid Memories, Remnants of the Past and Conquered Conquerors.
Add Destructive Play to the mix, which is located right in between them.

Then run T14-T16 maps and make sure Maven is witnessing. She will summon a bunch more bosses to join the fight and each of them can drop a guardian map.

Once you have all 4 guardians available, go kill them to drop 1 fragment each to unlock the pinnacle boss they are guarding. May it be Sirus, Shaper or Elder.
Its all the same.

The only difference is Cortex, he can only accessed by killing his guardians which then can drop the cortex map.

Keep in mind that Shaper and Elder can each drop 2 different fragments which combined will unlock the Uber Elder fight in which you will face both: Shaper and Elder.

Thats really all there is to it, except one little detail:
If your build can handle it, you want Maven to witness you killing all those guardians including Shaper and Elder, which will grant you access to special invitations. Kirac will hold those for you and you get to fight all those guardians to amuse Maven.
In all those fights you can drop awakened gems and you will get Maven fragments as well, which will allow you to fight her eventually.

And after all that, you will have access to all voidstones, 5th mapslot in your mapdevice and a bunch more favorite map slots as well.

Thank you very much, this is exactly what I was looking for. I would love to pin this somewhere for others who are lost as I am.
I appreciate you taking your time out to write all that.
Not sure how exactly you farmed the frags you've got. Orbaal has probably already explained but i'll have a go anyway.

There are 3 sets of 4. Shaper, Elder and Conqueror. Each have a different boss, defeating boss will always drop a fragment of type of the boss you beat. To get these boss fights, you need special maps, they will be level 14-16. This is the main way. There are some other sets, like atziri, but I wont go into those, you can look them up on the fragments wiki.

There are ways to spec your atlas to increase drops of these maps. Maven is also a way to get the fragments. If you witness the fights above, once you've witness the set you will be able to fight all 4 at once in the Maven crucible. This can result in multiple fragments dropping. Once you have all four in a set you can open the encounter to the bigger bosses. If you have an uneven number of one sort, and aren't trading, it is possible to roll them to a random different fragment of the same set with the horticrafting station, for 500 mats per roll. You can also roll shaper maps to get different outcomes before you do the fights. Using a orb of horizon on a shaper map will roll it to a different shaper map with a different boss from the same set, because the bosses are linked to a certain map. Elder/conqueror don't allow this, because the maps are variable, but you can still change the mods or map base without loosing the influence. You might also notice that it is possible to have maps influenced by elder/shaper that do not lead to a boss encounter. Maps with boss fights have a different icon.

There might be other mays to get these fragments but they don't generally just drop naturally in maps, its one guaranteed off each boss.
