Gems suddenly stop working

Question - new here - maybe this was asked and answered...

I have been building a witch necromancer. I have skills like Summon Raging Spirit, Molten Shield, Punishment, Pride, etc. I have been finding equipment and spending a resources to get the right number of slots and colors. However, now that i have the gems slotted with the proper support gems, the skills no longer work when i slot them.

I had to move summon raging spirit to a different piece of equipment, but now the shield, punishment, and pride don't work. they only way they do is if i move them to a different piece of equipment, but the problem is the ones they are slotted in have the right colors.

I CAN slot them in my equipment and put them on my options d-pad (X, square, Triangle, circle on my controller), so it's not like they aren't "allowed" on the equipment, but rather when i go to battle, the skills are "dimmed" out and can't be used.

I've never seen this before. Is it a glitch? what is wrong with my build? Nowhere does it say i don't have enough strength, dexterity, or intelligence to use them - I've seen that happen before, but never the problem i 'm having. thank you.

Your profile is set to Private, you need to change that in your account settings.

What do you mean you cant use them? The icon is greyed out? So you cant turn on pride aura? Is there and strange mods on the shield? Like lifetap or something? Or something that is multiplying the mana cost.

Un-private account will certainly help if you want a quick answer.

Thank you. I'm brand new here. I unprivated my account. You are thinking maybe there his something on the piece of equipment that is preventing the skill from being used?

I think i re-explained it in my original post as i edited it. I can slot the gems, put them on my d-pad to "use" (on my controller), but instead of being vibrant like the other skills that i can use, these ones are dull, sort of greyed out, and when i hit them, nothing happens with the particular skill.

good suggestion on looking at the equipment. It's i have them slotted on a piece of rare armor so i'm hoping it's as easy as that, even tho i like the armor, need a new one and that could work. i'll test that out with other armor i can find...

I think I understand what you are saying, when the skill icon is dimmed out like this it often means something is preventing the skill, like a requirement or insufficient cost to use the skill.

It is strange if you can't use the skill when in tthe shield but can use them if it is sockets elsewhere, that is why I suggested shield mods, though if you are low level it's pretty unlikely.

What other gems do you have in the shield? Support gems often have a mana multiplier or sometimes change properties like making the gem become triggered.

I figured it out. I have a skill called Molten shell. The support gem for it was Cast When Damage Taken. However. when i slotted that passive, any normal attack skill (Pride, Summon Raging Spirit, Punishment, Vulnerability, etc.) wouldn't work. I still can't figure out what about the gem caused any skills on the same piece of equipment to malfunction, but once i removed that passive, it fixed my abilities...

Yes you have unprivated the account but it doesn't look like you are using that account on your current character. Do you have another account that you play on? With a separate login perhaps?
