Rune vendor recipe

I just realized that you can vendor runes and get upgraded ones but it sure how many are needed or if you could do different combinations. Has anyone figured this out already?

Didn't know that either. Seems like it 5-1. I would say that they probably just go upto the next rank and ordered by the order they become available with the town upgrades.
