Is alc+go completely dead or something?

I play alc and go pretty much every league, and even though I never reach very high div/h values, I play a lot and make enough currency to afford 500-550 div builds pretty much every league I play

and this league I have 3 divines in my stash... been mapping for about 10 hours now and I think I made less than 5 divs total. what the hell happened to the loot?

You can't alch and go anymore, you need to at the very least use scarabs.
You also need additional map slots unlocked and you ideally need to be farming t17 to keep up with the economy.

Since this has become the baseline, all other forms are inferior.

I won't touch t17s until I'm level 100, I don't like doing risky content

so I assume it's pointless to use scarabs on t16s, because of the opportunity cost, and alc and go is also pointless because we can only get loot if we use some scarabs

guess I just sit at my hideout and craft stuff to make money then. been there, done that. this isn't the first league where it's pointless to play the game unless you're doing the most optimized endgame stuff. ggg never learns

The current state is, the casuals and scrubs clean the toilets (farm the scarabs)
Selling them for scraps to those who have the optomised setup... they get to have the fun time with the game.
What you really wanna do is using Kingsmarch to make currency and lots of it.

You need 1 ship with a good crew to mitigate risk and send it with loads of crops/dust to farm divines that way.

Once you get there, you want one fully upgraded mapping device stacked with 6 maprunners lvl9 on average and have them run corrupted T16s all day long.
They will bring back loads of bubblegum currency same as the ships do but also divines every now and then.

Next step is using the currency exchange market to convert all that stuff into chaos and divines.

To sustain all of that as far as gold is concerned you want an atlas spawning loads of monsters and avoid mechanics taking too much time such as blight or ritual etc.

You can totally alc&go those maps although gold drops are impacted by quant but as long as you can fund your town, you are doing just fine.

Bottom line is:
If you are not using Kingsmarch you will be missing out.
You don't need to do T17s and you don't even need to use scarabs.

But what you do need is a tree specializing in a couple "guaranteed loot" mechanics + all the quant and modifier effect you can get + everything else you can fit like shrines or strongboxes.

Red Altars are amazing and give a lot of bubblegum including chaos.

Harvest even without any scarabs is amazing extremely stable money. Especially with the currency exchange. I do Crop Rotation and focus on boosting yellow.

Run expedition and sell reroll currencies.

That's what I did without any scarabs and it's plenty of currency. Of course you'll get much more once you start using scarabs, but it's more than enough to get you a good starting amount of currency.
