Interaction between Smite and Non Vaal strike skill +x/Ancestral Call on single target

Hi,

After hours of research, I still don't understand about the interaction between smite and Non-Vaal skill strike +x or ancestral call on single target

As I understand, if I hit a single target with the aoe from smite with +strikes (tree, gloves, ancestral call support), the summoned 'Ancestors' can strike that single target with a melee strike. So, double damage?

If I have, like +3 strikes, all the extra strikes damage that single target? or the extra strikes only hit once?
