Maul in skill tree

What is the best way to level up in the skill tree if I want to improve my Maul skills?

So, there's no easy answer for this, because Path of Exile is designed with what I, in my head, call "depth via breadth." There are so, so many options for combinations of variables out there that a general question like this can't be answered easily.

Experienced players will generally be much more specific than simply "Mauls." A good rule of thumb is to pick 1 or 2 offensive skill gems that you like and want to play endgame and centre your character build around that. For example, do you like Tectonic Slam, Heavy Strike, or Ground Slam? Trying to make good build choices around each of these 3 skills will look very different.

When you open your passive tree, you can press Ctrl+F to click on the "Search here" box at the top of the passive tree. Then you can search for the keywords that apply to you.

If you're a fan of using Mauls, you will likely benefit from passives that talk about...
Two Handed Melee Weapons
Maces
Melee Physical Damage (note: this won't help if you're building for elemental base damage, which is a slightly more advanced strategy, and often weaker than simply building for physical damage. It also won't help if you're using a skill that only fires Projectiles, such as Spectral Throw).
Attack Speed (unless you are playing a Slam build and getting more attack speed would push you over an efficiency breakpoint for wasted attacks between Fist of War and/or Cry cooldowns).
EDIT: I nearly forgot. If you're playing a Skill that deals damage in an Area, such as Ground Slam or Tectonic Slam, but NOT Heavy Strike (unless you socket Melee Splash - but this only affects the splash portion, not the primary hit), then you will also benefit from Area Damage.
EDIT: Also, I see you're playing a Templar, so I should have also added:
Attack Damage

Additionally, there's the question of whether or not you should try to care about Accuracy. Generally, if you're using Two Handed Maces (which is what I presume you mean by Mauls), speccing for Accuracy will be very difficult. As a result you should search for "Resolute Technique" on the passive tree which gives you Hits can't be evaded, which means you don't need to care about accuracy, in exchange for losing the ability to ever deal Critical Strikes. However, note that Juggernaut has an accuracy-scaling passive should you choose to play Mauls + Critical Strikes, in which case you would not want to take Resolute Technique and instead stack Accuracy and Crit.

If you happen to like building Tectonic Slam or Infernal Blow, the 60% physical to fire conversion opens up more passive skills that could be attractive to you:
Magmatic Strikes and the small passive leading to it will give 20% + 20% physical to fire conversion, allowing Tectonic Slam to be 100% physical to fire. This would allow you to also fully benefit from bonuses to...
Fire Damage
Elemental Damage
Damage Penetrates x% of Fire Resistance (unless your build tries to scale Ignite - Penetration doesn't help with Ignite)

Additionally, you should note that this game has pretty nasty monsters and incoming damage, so eventually you will need to learn about how to layer your defences and make sure not to neglect defensive skill points on your passive tree. A good starting point for new players is to make sure you're grabbing whatever Life nodes are near the offensive passives you're chasing.

As you can see from the above, the final answer is really it depends. You may wish to consider seeking a build guide for more guidance. Alternatively, you can continue to play around and explore and the more you play, the more you might find yourself liking a particular Attack Skill more and more, which will guide the passive skills you want to take.

Appreciate it !
NP!

I forgot one detail. The game devs set profiles to hide characters by default. But if you ever want to have other players provide specific criticism on your characters, you can unhide your characters at https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/Arp_148/privacy and then we can give specific ideas on how to improve.

Some other players can be quite merciless in their criticism ("your gear is trash..." etc.), but it's usually coming from a good place and is then followed up with ideas on how to improve ("...go get gear with more Life and Resistances.").
