Reasons why Traps suck so much vs Mines
So I've played plenty of miners and I noticed that this patch, traps got slightly buffed
So I went ahead and made an icetrap build to really see how it feels in comparison My end result is that = Traps are worse than mines in EVERY way imaginable Lets start by comparing the main skill support Minefield Vs Cluster Minefield = 4 additional = 5 mines per throw How much dmg loss? = No damage loss or "less" dmg modifiers Only downside is 60% LESS throwing speed So Instead of lets say 4 throws per second = .25 = 4 mines on the ground with Minefield - 60% LESS = .4 throwing speed = 2.5 throws per second = 10 mines on the ground So you basically get 6 more mines per second ------------------------------------------------------ Cluster Traps = 2 additional = 3 traps per throw How much dmg loss? = 36% less dmg Instead of lets say 4 throws per second = .25 = 4 traps on the ground with Cluster - .25 throws per second = 12 traps on the ground So you get 8 more traps on the ground, the issue now is that they deal 36% less dmg total 36% LESS damage = the same damage as 7.6 traps at full So now you start to see how insanely awful this support gem is in comparison to minefield You really only get 3.6 more traps on the ground per second vs minefield gets 6 more mines per second on the ground __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Result = Cluster Traps needs a massive buff to even be comparable to Minefield support Either reduce the 36% less to 17% less at lvl 20 This would result in the damage output being equivalent to having 9.9 traps on the ground from 4 So slightly less than minefield grants at 6 MORE mines per second +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Another main issue with Traps vs Mines Traps have a timer on how long it takes from being thrown to actually land on the ground, and then "arm" Its noticeable and feels like its over 1 second... probably closer to 1.5 seconds This needs to be DRASTICALLY cut down and should have the same range as mines do when throwing them I cant throw my traps far away from my character, but I can throw mines much further away If GGG wants to pull traps out of the literal dog shit tier skills in POE Its very simple to do so and making 3 major tweaks is all it takes 1- Buff Cluster Trap Support 2- Buff Trap Throwing Range 3- Buff Trap Arming/Landing speed ![]() Until then I would advise EVERYONE do not buy TRAP mtx Do not play Traps They suck Just make a miner instead until GGG's balance team decides to stop trolling us I regret making my trap build and its just so sad how bad they are compared to mines Last edited by Bloomania#2606 on Feb 22, 2021, 5:31:15 PM Last bumped on Feb 22, 2021, 5:54:07 PM

Traps are pretty powerful and easily clear all content with a dog shit wand and a 6L chest. I have only played Explosive Trap and just cruised through the game. Mapping was solid and bossing was never an issue. The only item I traded for was Chernobog's Pillar Ebony Tower Shield which cost like 1 alchemy orb, everything else was just self-found life/res equipment.
Traps are worse than Mines, but that is because Mine builds are extremely overpowered and have been for a long time. Buffing skills to bring them up to the level of skills/builds like Mines isn't the way to go. Last edited by BrettLee#6388 on Feb 22, 2021, 5:56:57 PM
