Dual Strike vs Double Strike - which do you prefer?

and why?
It all depends on your build. I run a dual claw build, and if you're going to dual wield then Dual Strike does way more damage than Double Strike. Most people use a 1h + Shield build, so Dual Strike isn't even an option.
dual strike is stronger in terms of DPS, while dual wielding, but for now, life/resists are more important so most people go with shield+one handed wep with crit.

I like dbl strike for the use of a shield, both have their merits since Dual strike does more dps.

Dbl strike also generates double crits if the initial strike rolls a crit the second gets to as well.

If you're like me and you run a claw build focused on Life Leech, CI and Ghost Reaver, the added DPS increases your survivability as well. In general though, shield is the better option like you say (at least in Hardcore).

If you're playing Softcore, then it's really just personal preference.

I agree, though I dislike Ci and pretty much go with HP from (how its gear dependent and how hard it is to recolor the blue chest piece).

If your a duel wielder, i think it's even better to use double strike.
it will use all passive bonuses from duel wielding just as dual strike and will hit with the main weapon twice at same speed as dual strike does with both weapons at once.
So if you put the better weapon on your main hand you will get better results then using dual strike.

plus I think it feels better with the double strike animation and faster strike feeling :)

love to hear some thoughts about it
It is completely dependent upon your build. If your talking raw wpn dmg then dual strike usually out-dps's double. Unless of course your offhand is terrible or just a stat stick. If your depending on procs, or something of that nature, then double strike will win. Things like CoC and ECoMS cannot double proc from dual while they can from double.

And, on the subject of shield>DW, DW has it's merits ... even in survivability. There are any number fo builds that will benefit more from faster attacks, more dps output, and massive amounts of free block than they would from having a little more HP/Res/Defensive stats. For instance, your dependent on freeze, or you need a lot more LL/LGoH, or you need to be more evasive so faster attacks allow you to attack move attack move.
