Admittedly, it still sounds like gaining and maintaining charges on some of the higher critbase spells will be too easy to do.

I'd assume they are envisioning nearly 100% uptime for power charges....

If it was that difficult to keep power charges up....I doubt anyone would really use it.

Thus, the fact that it maybe be really easy for some builds is moot...the main point is that 100% is possible for most builds.

Keeping with this thought, I'd assume the balancing is focused on the possibility that many builds will have 20-30%+ more crit chance if they use the gem (and combine that with the addition of what looks like 2 pretty strong melee gems).

more damage and aoe for melee is nice but that's not the issue with them for the most part.

it's their survival, and the fact that ranged trumps it at almost every possible corner.
I play games... shocked, i know.
The multistrike is a great idea, but should be a normal skill-gem, not a support gem. As other people mention, the zeal-effect from diablo 2 worked pretty neat, but making heavy strike hit 3 times is just too crazy and if you decide to make it a support gem, you'll have to make the weapon effectiveness so bad, which forces you to use it with a heavy nuke skill like heavy strike, which will not provide many possibilities for the gem.

:-)

Add multistrike as a melee skill-gem, maybe add 1-2 extra attacks when you reach lvl 15 and lvl 20 of the gem so you'll attack for a maximum of 5 times when lvl 20.

Would be nice to have a build with flicker strike, dual strike and multistrike for mass enemies.

Will melee splash work with concentrated effect?? EH?! EH?!
IGN: Hyoumei
I think, it will not work with Concentrated Effect. Supportgems support active skills. They don't support other Supportgems. And Melee Splash only works with single target skills. So no Melee Splash with Concentrated Effect.

People are under the impression that multistrike will be at 100% melee damage.

If 3 additional attacks are performed, i would expect damage per hit to be 20-25% of normal single target damage + 10-25% increased mana cost.

With double strike it will count the double strike as one attack, so the support will not trigger off of each HIT, but off of each attack.

With elemental hit, the elemental damage won't switch between hits - i.e. if first hit is cold, all hits will be cold.

With frenzy, only the first hit will generate a charge.

It has already been pointed out: splash melee won't work with AOE skills (DUH!) Therefore it won't work with infernal blow, cyclone, ground slam, leap slam, cleave, and sweep -- for example.

For dominating blow, the conversion effect will likely only work on the primary target of the skill, with the melee damage splashed.

For Glacial Hammer and Heavy Strike, the cold and knockback could be added to the splash -- but it there is a chance it might not.

Increased AOE passives will likely not work with splash melee support.
Keep up the good work!
For dominating blow, the conversion effect will likely only work on the primary target of the skill, with the melee damage splashed. --> The conversion effect occurs upon death from the damage of the skill. So yes, I would believe Melee Splash will work.

I think that multistrike will ruin the variety in this game. Why don't you add multistrike as a skill instead of support gem?
Not fun when all attacks will look almost the same.

I wonder how Multistrike will work on high as attacks. Would it scale with the as of an attack, or would it cap the as of a skill? I presume it would scale, even though that could look weird on some attacks I spose :D
