Why is there no more Global Chat?

when I used to play this years ago the Global Chat was VERY active tons of people used to be posting stuff and talking.

Now its completely empty when you ask a question there is no answer and nobody posting. Says global chat 21 how can I change this and should I?

I turned off chat before leaving the beach on my first character and have never regretted it. All I know is that you have to find the right channel for the right activity. Someone out there might have a list of the popular channels. Some channels are for trading, and some are specifically not for trading. Try to trade in one of those will get you a mute pretty quickly.

type something like

/global ###

put in number for whatever. you're in global 21 because many other global chat channels are full. if you want to develop cancer at an alarming rate you can go to the "chat" channels of 1-3.
if you want to share things like trials you can go to 820

and yes, asking for a tip is considered trading
