item already has the maximum number of socket links question

how come the "item already has the maximum number of socket links" doesn't show up? any more or does it only show up on chest items because it doesn't show up on boots and I used my fusing on a 4 link boot without looking and now I have to try to get it to 4 links again. the point is if I know that "item already has the maximum number of socket links" pop-ups on chest items then I can go really fast to try to get a 6 link armor chest

You'll only get that notification on Body Armour or 2H Weapons. Some people want to break links on other items for specific gem setups.

4S items can be "better" if linked in 3+1 or 2+2 depending on your application. So they don't "stop" at 4L like a 5S or 6S would.
If I had my way, there'd be an option to make it stop that was on by default. You could have it also include "stop at 5L on a 6S" too. You could toggle it as you would like. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Mar 24, 2019, 10:42:26 AM

The game only prevents an Orb of Fusing altering the links on a fully-linked item if that item has at least five sockets.

You can't fuse over a 6L. It wont work. You can't fuse over a 5L on a 5S item. But you can fuse over a 5L 6S, even though that's a reasonable goal to spam 100+ fusings on. Very easy to overshoot that goal no matter how much you pay attention.

You don't understand what I'm saying then, or you're overgeneralizing it.
You can always apply a fusing to a 4S item, no matter what links it has. That's completely intentional. A 5S item can be fused until it has 5L and then it stops. (don't do this by the way, it's better to try on a 6S item). A 6S item can be fused until it has 6L passing up a 5L accidentally. If that's not clear... I don't know what I'm saying that is confusing you. YOu might think that "6L" means fully linked no matter what item we're talking about... it doesn't. |
