Client is stuck on connecting...
Before reading ahead, I did solve my problem and will just leave this up for others to use. The solution is posted at the bottom.
After getting the new patch today the client got stuck on the Checking Resources... part for about 30 minutes, before I decided to try restarting the client. This created yet another problem, whereas there was an error message that said "the Content.ggpk is still running" would appear. After waiting a while yet again and trying a few times to start the game the same error came up again. I looked in Task Tanager to see if I could find a process or service related to the game that was still running and could not find anything, so I decided the best solution was to restart the computer. Upon finishing the restart process I tried to start the client again, but it got stuck on Connecting... I have read on other forums that the only solution, thus far is delete the Content.ggpk and reinstall the whole game. I feel as if there should be another solution though. I would like to also note, that my girlfriend was able to patch and start up the game just fine, while in the same room as me and it still does not work, after she has left to go home. This is a list of things I have tried already: - Unplugging the internet in the computer/Checking connections - Restarting the Router - Restarting the Client Multiple times (This just creates multiple processes of the client, which will not end on Task Manager) - Restarting the computer multiple times - Running the client in safe mode with network capabilities - Repairing the install with the installer - Running the Client as Administrator - Removing the game with the installer and reinstalling it Here are some pictures of what is happening The actual problem Task Manager with multiple clients running After waiting about 30 minutes, the processes did finally disappear. It seems that after going to my firewall and allowing it full access has fixed my problem (This was with ZoneAlarm). The weird part is that ZoneAlarm was not telling me to allow access. I also had to open ZoneAlarm from my start menu, since the icon was not on my taskbar for some reason. This may have been caused by the closing of the firewall... but I don't know how the game wouldn't have access to the internet then. After the game updated again, I noticed that ZoneAlarm didn't come up to tell me to allow the game yet internet access yet again. This means that every time the game updates, I will need to go into the firewall and explicitly tell it to allow the game access. After allowing access the game still will not finish checking resources, so you must close it (where the problem with Content.ggpk occurs). You must then restart your computer and then you can play your game. I would like to note that ZoneAlarm does not seem to want to show up if you don't open it at least once before starting the game. If this is done before opening Path of Exile, then the game will run fine and ZoneAlarm will properly ask for permission. (Yes ZoneAlarm is set to start when the computer does. This could be something with my computer, but I would like to point it out for others that may experience the problem). Last edited by Sicomatic#0737 on Mar 12, 2013, 6:49:05 PM

same error here...I also have zone alarm, but inactive.
edit: So I might have figured out the issue. I restarted Zone Alarm, and placed it back on startup, for some reason i had it turned off at startup. Once I started it, I ran PoE Client, and ZA popped up for permission, I allowed, and then it passed the "Connecting" screen and went to "Checking Resources", which is where an error popped up saying "content.ggpk in use". I restarted laptop, made sure ZA was up when I ran the client...I am currently downloading the latest patch. I hope that helps in some way because it seems the "Connecting" error was being held up by ZA. Last edited by soccercasanova#0541 on Mar 22, 2013, 2:06:06 PM
