Blight damage question?
Hi. I am playing a blight build right now and the wiki page states the following:
-Damage over time: Modifiers to spell, chaos damage and damage over time affect the damage over time component of this spell. -Blight does not hit and therefore cannot be supported by added damage supports such as Added Chaos Damage Support So far so good, but I tried using items that add flat chaos dmg to spells (like abyssal jewels and Apep's rage) and the tooltip shows that they affect the damage very significantly. Is this a bug or something? https://imgur.com/a/5N6CUls https://imgur.com/puJlb4x Last edited by 3thunders#4294 on Jun 17, 2018, 4:32:10 AM Last bumped on Sep 20, 2018, 6:01:38 PM

Hey there,
No bug, working as intended. I play a Blight Witch and know a bit about it. Blight doesn't hit but is affected by flat chaos dmg mods. "Added Chaos Damage is a support gem that adds chaos damage to hits made with the linked skill. For instance: the chaos damage will be added to hits made by any attack skill or spell that hits, or hits made by things such as the area damage explosions from Fireball, Detonate Dead, and Minion Instability. However, Added Chaos Damage will increase the damage of Poison because it increases the base damage, which is used to calculate poison damage." https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Added_Chaos_Damage_Support |

Blight does not hit and thus fundamentally cannot interact with flat added damage, which requires a hit in order to be applied. Added Chaos Damage's interaction with Poison is both well known and completely irrelevant here; Poison isn't spell damage and it requires a hit to apply, which means ACD works with Poison by basically being base damage. Blight has no such interactions.
I'm not sure what the 5k vs. 25k tooltip DPS is about with your screenshots, but it's not coming from any sort of flat damage source. Could be that the cast speed mods on Apep's Rage(s) are making a much bigger impact than I would otherwise think, but the overall DOT damage listed for both is more-or-less equivalent at 7.5k and 8k. DPS will be higher on the second screenshot because each stack lasts longer and does a bit more, so you can stack up to the 20-DOT limit faster, but otherwise yeah. Not sure what your tooltip's doing. Sorry, man. She/Her

In the second picture you have Breath of the Council equipped. The increased chaos damage from it works with both hits and DoT, thus the damage increase.
Flat added damage does not affect Blight (or any other DoT skill) in any way. Last edited by Abdiel_Kavash#5296 on Sep 20, 2018, 6:08:54 PM
