Can a mirrored item be mirrored again?

Can a mirrored item be mirrored again or does it require the original blue print (non-mirrored) to be mirrored again?

As far as I know mirrored stuff cant be modified in any way.

The original does not become Mirrored, you can apply as many Mirrors as you want to a single given item. That's how Mirror services work after all :p The copy cannot be Mirrored.
