Failed creating the Direct3D device.
I have a AMD Radeon HD 6850 running Catalyst Version 12.1, I run windows 7, have ~3gb of ram and every time I try to start the game I get these errors.
I was reading in other games something about the screen resolution caused this, is there any way to run this game in windowed mode in windows 7? I reinstalled and it did the exact same thing. If you need more info please direct me. --------------------------- Path of Exile --------------------------- Failed creating the Direct3D device. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- --------------------------- Error --------------------------- DXUTCreateDevice failed --------------------------- OK --------------------------- |

Found fix
Thanks Rory I'll pass this on to others, but my first thought might be to delete this: "C:\Users\[User]\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile\production_Config.ini", which should reset your game settings - If that doesn't work, let me know and we'll try something else out! |

I have almost the same problem, and this seem to work for me. Right click on the icon for PoE and change the compatibility mode, my recommended Windows XP service pack 2. So far the game is running fine. Might try that out.

if ur really REALLY desperate and having alot of exception errors and or just have an older computer like i did my solution was run in xp sp2 and also run in 640x480. like i said if ur desperate and wanna solve some of the constant disconnects. it will not cure all of them but it will give u better FPS for the most part. this is something i made due with on my laptop till i got a computer. also if u turn off global chat set to trillinear no vsync or post processing. just run it like that in fullscreen. u can run it in windowed if u like. this is something that worked for me and gave me about 20-30 fps depending. most of towns tho u wont get over 15 FPS but for some its better than ur 3-10 in town. like i said its not the end all fix all but its something u can try if ur hard up for cash and want to try something. ive tried it all. gamebooster disabling windows aero vista antilag etc. so give it a shot if ur just having a hard time. :) hope it helps some.

Sorry for bringing this old thread up again, but i just wanted to post my own experience with the error given by OP.
So i had the exact same issue, the workaround also suggested in other threads (delete the production_Config.txt) did not help. And my GF 8800 GT is definitely capable of shader model 3.0 as required by PoE. For me the issue was solved by installing DirectX 9! I already had Dx11 installed, which comes with stock Win 8. So everybody who encounters these errors, has a capable graphicscard and deletion of the file above does not help: install DirectX 9. |
