Any client crashes or disconnects are sent to us automatically. Report them if you have steps to reproduce the crash, but if you’re not sure why you crashed, then we’ll be investigating the default crash report ourselves.

Things you should know:

  • If you have a Creative sound card, the drivers can cause PC crashes. Solutions to this problem can be found here.
  • Back up your content.ggpk file! If the file becomes corrupted by an ISP interrupting patching, or a PC crash, we have no way to repair the file yet. Backing up your content.ggpk file will save you another 4gb download! If you do have a corrupted pack file, running a Pack Check will often remove corrupted sections and let you re-patch.
  • /help brings up a list of commands
  • The client can sometimes get out of sync with the server. This can cause all kinds of problems like your character suddenly moving, being unable to attack monsters, having monsters stand inactive on the client when they are attacking you on the server, or being attacked by monsters you can’t see. This should automatically be corrected (With the exception of invisible monsters and immobile monsters). The syncing is still being tweaked and improved, so this won't be the final iteration.
  • If you want to look at your telemetry, which will have your fps and so on, you can press F1 to show and hide it.
  • The /itemlevel command shows the built-in level of an item you have picked up.
  • If the game is running poorly, try turning Shadows down or off - They're the biggest hog on your graphics card.
  • If you're frequently getting a "E_OUTOFMEMORY" or "Unable to Map File" error when changing areas, try turning Texture Quality down, or put -gc 2 at the end of your Path of Exile shortcut (Open the shortcut properties, and add a { -gc 2} after the last quotation mark). If this still doesn't help, try -gc 1. Doing this will increase load times between areas you have visited, and similar areas.


Known issues:

  • Monsters can sometimes damage you when changing areas. It is recommended that you make sure you're not being attacked when changing areas on higher difficulties or in Hardcore.
  • Chat messages cannot be received while on a loading screen.
  • If you portal out of a bandit fight, the fight will end. Leaving the arena and re-entering will be required before you can start the bandit fight again.
  • Too many lights acting on a tile at once can cause it to become black for some players, and only receive some lights. We don't need screenshots of this, it's something that requires tech to fix.
  • Monsters can sometimes be knocked back into walls, off cliffs, onto cave edges etc. by skills such as Shield Charge, Frost Wall, Heavy Strike, Sweep, and Leap Slam.
  • Hidden monsters, like Moss Monsters and Water Elementals can have Rare glows and auras while hidden.
  • Ranged attacks at point blank can fire sideways or backwards.
  • Shadows can display faded edges when overlapping.


Smaller issues:

  • Totem skills will display the speed of summoning the totem rather than the totem's cast speed, and the DPS display of totem skills will use the summoning speed rather than the totem's cast speed.
  • Selling stacks of items only gives you the reward from an individual item, unless they have a sell price set
  • Chests can have their names not disappear when opened if items are moused over afterwards.
  • Holding Alt, Shift, or Ctrl while using flasks does not activate the flasks.
  • Arrows are sometimes suspended in the air, over chasms and tall cliff walls.
  • Mouse-over highlighting and/or layered effects (Blood Rage, Burning, Frozen, Shocked, Elemental Skeletons, Magic and Rare monsters) can cause unusual effects on the character or monsters, or make them all red.
  • Party health may not show correctly when you enter an area, and party Energy Shield may show as regenerating even when full.
  • Critical Strike Multiplier will display twice instead of a Critical Chance after the Critical Chance of a skill selected in the Character Sheet has been changed
  • Using a flask with the Caustic mod when you have Chaos Inoculation will kill you. This is correct with how the mod is worded
  • Quivers are currently only shown when a bow is used, rather than when a quiver is used. This will be changed when quivers have their own 3d models.
  • Repeatedly re-equipping items with +health mods, leveling gems in them, or repeatedly dropping and picking up quest rewards after taking the Oak bonus can cause a loss of life due to rounding.
  • Some skill specific passives (Aura Area of Effect Radius) don't show up on the character panel yet.
  • Some skill effects don't scale currently with increased area off effect bonuses.
