Unable to select Character / All gateways "?" ping
I seem to be unable to select a character when I log in. Its just a scene with everyone on the boat with no UI. I also seem to have unknown latency with any of the gateways. I'm thinking this is related to a server communication issue. I don't know what it could be since I'm only running Windows security essentials with the default firewall setup. I've been able to play on this computer before gateways were introduced. Actually before a lot of new things were introduced cause its been 2 years since I logged in.

Just checked my firewall settings. Everything regarding inbound rules for Path of Exile seem to be in good shape. I don't know what it could be since I can't log in with the Steam client, or the normal one.

" You shouldn't need any inbound rules for PoE, however, for the 'ping' column to be displayed correctly, you'll need to allow ICMPv4 outbound. Depending on which firewall you're using, you could also the ICMPv4 type, which would be Echo Request, but that depends upon your paranoia level. If your using Windows firewall or a manager for said firewall, you'll need a rule for the System process that allows ICMPv4 out to anywhere. |

" Can you point me to a guide to set that up? I've looked at a few things that enabled it on inbound, but I can't set to find it for outbound? Would that setting be associated with file and printer sharing or network discovery? I have all of that turned off because I live in an apartment building with shared networking. ![]() Last edited by ghostravenstorm#0528 on Nov 15, 2016, 12:33:55 AM

Actually I found a a custom rule I can set for ICMPv4. So I made an outbound rule and inbound rule just in case, but the behaviour in the game remains the same.

I tried bringing down Windows firewall entirely to try to log in. Still no luck.

Take a look at How to Enable Windows 7 Ping Response in Firewall it's for Windows 7 but will hold true for other versions of Windows.
The only thing I'd change is setting the outbound process to System rather than All programs, but that's a matter of choice. |

Okay, so, I just logged in using a VPN, so its likely this shared network bullshit I'm on. Are there any connection requirements I need to know about how the game receives data? I have to go to my network administrator to fix this. I think its my network that's doing weird things with ICMPv4.
Is there am IP for a US gateway I can ping myself? I seem to have problems pinging anything. Google.com times out on me, but I can connect to it in my browser just fine. Last edited by ghostravenstorm#0528 on Nov 15, 2016, 1:08:38 AM

" There are a few outbound ports the game needs, see this. Also, as mentioned above, with Windows firewall and probably others, ICMPv4 Echo Request outbound. |

" What error message are you seeing when you ping a domain? Also, what happens if you try pinging google public DNS, either 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4? |
