The Rain of Pain - Repentance Iron Will Bladefall - 7 Link - EZ Atziri

The Rain of Pain build is an Iron Will based Bladefall caster. The build runs Repentance gloves to eliminate the need to run the Iron Will support gem, opening up that gem slot, and creating the opportunity to have a 7-Link set up. Combining high damage with great survivability this has turned out to be a very fun and a very powerful character to play.

The build works by converting majority of the intelligence and dexterity nodes between the shadow, witch, and templar sections. Iron Will then gives +1% spell damage bonus for every 5 strength as well as increases base life, +5 for every 10 strength. Stacking some specific unique gear pieces as well as unique jewels we provide the life base of a IW marauder with the powerful damage node selection of a witch and shadow.

The Good and the Bad
Spoiler

Pros:
*1000+ strength
*Good Life
*Very High Strength
*Very good damage for a non-crit build
*Good survivability
*Instant Life leech to help vs reflect

Con:
*Reflect can hurt if you do not pay attention
*Can run almost any map mod but there are some that just are annoying and just slow down the game play, like reflect
*not super expensive but not super cheap either
*No Life Regen

Passive Tree and Bandit Choices

There are a few mandatory items, both of which can be a bit pricey depending on the player.

These are our free 7-link giving gloves. We use them for the built in global Iron Will support. The downside to this is that our build converts a large majority of our intelligence to strength so we need a means to make this up. Here comes mandatory item number 2. Your aim here is for anything under 5% reduced spell damage as the con running you in the 30 chaos range.

This little beauty gives us a very large amount bonuses to each stat. Though just a stat stick it gives us damage and life from the strength, provides us with the intelligence needed to run Repentance gloves and the dexterity to allow us to run Blood Rage for even more damage. This guy will probably run around the exalt price tag.

Onto the mandatory jewels. These are very cheap, 1 chaos or less each. Try and make sure you get a high base roll of +strength on each, they go up to +24.

2 jewels converting intelligence and 1 converting dexterity. Much later on in the characters life span, 85+ we will be adding in a 3rd jewel to convert intelligence into strength.

Very Highly Recommended Items
Spoiler

This little baby gives us 125% increase to our damage at 1000 strength. It also gives us a good grip of strength and a lot of cast speed. Very cheap to buy.

The next two are simply used for the percentage gained amount of strength. Black Sun Crest plays a pretty key roll in keeping us above 300 intelligence after we do our conversions. These guys really start shinning when you start reaching the higher tier strength levels. Till then a simple +50 strength rare would suffice. Both are very cheap as well.

Bladefall Links
Spoiler

*Remember once you hit 66 and equip Repentance your links listed below become a 5,6, and 7 link respectively.

[4 Link] Bladefall - Spell Echo - Controlled Destruction - Concentrated Effect

[5 Link] Bladefall - Spell Echo - Controlled Destruction - Concentrated Effect - Life Leech

[6 Link] Bladefall - Spell Echo - Controlled Destruction - Concentrated Effect - Life Leech - Poison

Poison provides an amazing amount of damage for the build and makes many bosses and encounters very trivial, including Atziri. You could run Added Fire Damage for a very large tooltip boost (if that is what you are into) but you will be losing a large amount of that damage versus high fire resistant mobs and elemental reflect will start chunking at you as well. Also you do not have the same fire and forget utility that poison brings. Also trash dies too quick for added fire damage to be useful there.

Auras
Spoiler

[The standard] Clarity + Hatred
[The Alternative] Clarity + Herald of Ash + Purity of X

I have not found a need to run the alternative set up, even in Atziri. But it is an option in case you feel you need to additional support.

Secondary Link Setups
Spoiler

[Max Level] CWDT - Molten Shell - Life Leech - Increased Duration
[Max Level] CWDT - Immortal Call - Increased Duration
[level 1] CWDT - Enfeeble - Ball Lightning - Blind

Blood Rage + Increased Duration

Your choice of movement:
Leap Slam + Faster Attacks + Fortify
OR
Flamedash + Faster Casting

Really everything here is preference. It is up to you entirely what you want for your support.

Notes for Atziri
Spoiler

First off I recommend having the following alternative shield

Very Cheap, we just want it for the bonus to max resistances.

Double Vaal:
Just PWN them. Very easy fight, doesn't take long at all.

Trio:
Kill the spikey lady, then the fire guy, then lastly the bleeding cycloner. I was able to go head to head with the cycloner as long as I had remove bleed flask charges up. I would still recommend doing a bit more kiting though unless you were spamming EC at the same time.

Atziri:
Just try and avoid as much as you can. You can take the mini flameblast to the face no problem but I wouldn't recommend taking a big one to the dome. I have not tested if I can survive this yet with Saffell's + Ruby Flask.

DO NOT hit the reflect chick. You will roast yourself.

Please excuse the horribly rolled body armor

Alternative Defenses
Spoiler

A few things can be changed about the build to improve survivability. The set up I have shown is to capitalize on damage.

1) Drop Hatred and run Herald of Ash. This will allow enough mana to run a blasphemy + enfeeble
2) Drop Blood Rage and Vaal Pact. You will be able to benefit from the life regen from the tree and spec into more in the shadow area. I do feel though that dropping VP will leave you weak vs physical reflect even more so then the build already is.
3) Run a Lightning Coil - the problem here is now you are investing in some serious currency on your rings and belt to stay capped on resistances. Also you will loose out on about 150 strength but will be much hardier and safe vs physical reflect.

Outstanding guide and build Kart!
just wanted to ask what your total strength was
At 78 I am about 1050. I still have two jewel slots to incorporate and can optimize my rares better. Also pretty soon the rest of the points are just fillers to boost strength.

My guildie, Varth, did this to its best possible outcome.

You need to drop life leech and dual wield Bino. Poison becomes the 5L, and Faster Casting your 6th.

The entire point of this is the scaling off the Doon....
I heard Bladefall is going to get nerfed, but after getting a Repentance to drop and performing an outrageous act of science, I am HIGHLY considering making this build now....

Damn those gloves! I wouldn't worry about a BF nerf. I think it will still be incredibly viable. I mean let's be honest, it needs to be toned down.
Hopefully I can trudge from 64-66 in the Dried Lakes rather quick tonight so I can at least get everything situated with this build. As of now, it's terrifyingly OP, and I just put on Doon's...

I am finding it quite frustrating trying to roll an Armour chest into 3B-2G-1R slots, but that's my fault for choosing Armour instead of Ar/ES, but for 2Ex, I couldn't pass the chest up. Link to everything I will be wearing below.

I don't have a shield/Bino's yet, but will probably wield another Doon's for now once I equip everything. Don't like Dual Doon's, so sticking with crappy shield until I find a badass shield, a Bino's and/or max resists w/o shield for an offhand.

I think I am sitting at roughly 600 strength at level 64, and only have 1 of the +24 str jewels that converts Int atm. Once I get 2 more and the dex one, I can start grabbing those nodes to quickly inflate my strength numbers.

Hopefully I can get around 6-7k HP and high armor, and be able to venture into T10+ maps with this build. My other builds were either support for maps that high, or too fragile in those maps for my liking :(

EDIT: Also, I strayed away a tad and took the Extra Curse node at the top as well. I want to run Blasphemy with Warlords Mark until I don't need it anymore while doing Vuln on hit, then will switch Warlords for Enfeeble.

Thanks for this build TS. I think I am gonna love it!!
