How viable is Bear Trap?
Hello exiled mates
I run Incinerate build,and have 2 spare slots to use for a skill.I tried various combinations,but none usual used (golem,Enduring Cry) satisfied me. Then,I saw Bear Trap,and its description that it holds enemies in place for a time. My question is - now strong that effect is?Will it be useful against merciless bosses without any investment in traps in passive tree? |

The holding duration depends on how much dmg was done compared to max life. In other words, it will do nothing to high life mobs with only 2 link and no investment.

The problem with Bear Trap is that it is single target and needs investment. If you are going to use a trap I'd suggest Fire Trap. I have one for utility. I toss them around for fun just to keep some damage on life regen mobs. Or drop a few before popping a strong box. Or preload a few before triggering a boss or while they are monologue-ing.
If you have a spare slot and nothing else to do with it then Decoy Totem isn't a bad place holder. Even at its worst it is never really not useful. Just drop one whenever you first see a mob or use it as a sniffer before you enter an area. Why not a Vaal gem or two in there? Vaal Lightning trap is quite useful for applying shock.

Without knowing what else you are already using, it is hard to suggest what else would work. I for one would be using Flame Totem for added DPS and an additional target for enemies to bash on. It is great for probing ahead of yourself as you progress and if you get enemies to attack your totem from off screen they will attack it almost exclusively. Since you are Incinerate you are already scaling damage for it, and it will be amazing.

Bear Trap + Multi Trap can at least stall fast, aggressive mobs that are running toward you... but it's a very, very brief stall. Probably better off with something else.

6L RRGGBB Incinerate + Lesser Multiple Projectiles + Spell Echo + Fire Penetration + Faster Projectiles + Iron Will 4L RRBB Cast When Damage Taken lv1 + Firestorm lv8 + Curse on Hit + Warlord's Mark 4S 3L RRB,G Cast When Damage Taken lv2 + Frost Wall lv11 + Increased Duration, Arctic Armor -> to w buty Blood Dance v1 4L RRBB Flame Dash + Enduring Cry + Faster Casting + Increased Duration -> EC from original project,but it preforms poorly and disturbs play flow.There I was planning to put Bear Trap + Multiple Traps/Trap damage/Increased Duration. v2 4L RRBB Flame Dash + Faster Casting + Vaal Haste + Icreased Duration -> probably I'll use this setup,sadly I haven't got Vaal Haste so far. 3L BBR Righterous Fire + Herald of Thunder + Purity of Fire 3L RGB Flame Totem + Item Rarity + Culling Strike |
