Puf's Cold Snap Witch - Tempest HC - MoM - Dual Curse - Flexible and Budget
Hello fellow Exiles. My name is Puf and welcome to my Cold-awwwww-Snap build. I've made many characters and died almost the same amount. Being tired of it, I wanted a build with survivability. So why not freeze everything? Build Stats

30 Points
Spoiler
At this point, you grabbed all the life nodes you can and start to get out of the Witch side. Alternatively, you can grab the Cast Speed nodes rather than the Spell Damage nodes. 57 Points
Spoiler
Now you grab the life nodes on the Templar side and finished up the Area nodes. 80 Points
Spoiler
Go down and finish the Scion life wheel and Resolute Technique after. Grab the recovery nodes near MoM, then MoM itself. Finish up the build by taking the cast speed nodes near MoM, then the Templar elemental nodes and finally Cold damage above the Witch. See above for references. Main Skill 4-Link: Cold Snap + Spell Echo + Increased Area of Effect + Ice Bite 5-Link: Cold Snap + Spell Echo + IAoE + Concentrated Effect + Ice Bite 6-Link: Cold Snap + Spell Echo + IAoE + CE + Ice Bite + Cold Penetration/Added Cold Damage/Cold to Fire Single Target 4-Link: Cold Snap + Spell Echo + CE + Cold Penetration 5-Link: Cold Snap + Spell Echo + CE + Cold Penetration + Faster Casting 6-Link: Cold Snap + Spell Echo + CE + Cold Penetration + Faster Casting + Added Cold Damage You can mix and match these support gems. Alternatively, you can add Faster Casting and such anytime. Cold to Fire is a great gem to abuse Arctic Armour. Ice Bite is for extra freeze chance and frenzy charges. Auras and Curses Herald of Ice + Curse on Hit + Warlord's Mark/Frostbite/Enfeeble/Temporal Chains Arctic Armour Clarity(Other aura if EB) Frostbite + Faster Casting Herald of Ice/Curse on Hit combo is linked with Warlord's Mark to increase survivability via endurance charge generation and life/mana leech. Self-cast Frostbite are for pesky cold resistant mobs. You can substitute curses with Temporal Chains or Enfeeble for extra utility/defence. You can also grab dual curse. 100% Required Piece of Equipment It is the only expensive piece of gear. Find a low roll ring with some useless corruptions if you can't spare the currency. Keep a lookout and don't be afraid to bargain. Staff
Spoiler
You don't need a Taryn's Shiver. In fact, in some cases, a mod-able rare/magic staff is better because you can roll more leech via Lv. 5 Catarina's mod. You want to have a 4/5-Link staff with these rolls: +1/2 to Socketed Cold Gems +% Spell/Cold Damage +% Cast Speed +x-x Added Cold/Lightning/Fire Damage to Spells Other Equipment
Spoiler
You would want these usual rolls(in order of importance):
Life/Resists Defences Dexterity Strength Most of your gems will be Intelligence based so getting hybrid Energy Shield gear wouldn't be a big deal. You're looking to maximize Armour or Evasion. But you shouldn't worry too much as you will be freezing everything. Flasks
Spoiler
I like my flask ratio to be 2 Life flasks, 1 Defence flask, 1 Quicksilver and 1 Mana/Utility flask
I tend to be biased towards instant life flasks because I want to train my reflexes to be like Pohx's :) Also you should almost always have Staunching roll(s) to remove bleed. I just happen to roll the same life flask twice. Granite flasks should roll extra armour. Quicksilver flasks can roll extra charges, extra movement speed or both. My last flask usually is a mana, hybrid or another utility flask depending on what I do and don't need. Jewels
Spoiler
Look for jewels with extra cold/spell damage, cast speed, dexterity and freeze chance.

how is your damage? Do you kill bosses fast?
|
|
You can see my damage under 'Statistics'.
For bosses, you have to self-cast Frostbite and use your single target or swap Hypothermia with Cold Pen. Depending on the boss, you might have to kite, bait it into your golem or both. Overall, bosses isn't the biggest problem. Also, going to update with a theory-crafted crit-based build without the use of Romira's Banquet. As well as bandit choices. If you're wondering, I got Oak - Passive - Passive. Last edited by MejickPuf#7409 on Aug 23, 2015, 10:55:25 PM

Fixed a mistake on Gem and Links. It's suppose to be Ice Bite and not Hypothermia.
|
|
maybe hypothermia is a option : if i look at my tree i have 10 % chance to freeze in it ( can easly take 10 % more ) --> cold snap = 30 % // staff = 8 % // frostbite = 10 %
so that means : 10 + ( 10 ) + 30 + 8 + 10 = 58 ( 68 ) % to freeze , so maybe you dont rly need to use a ice bite ? |
|
You can run Hypothermia if you want.
You can live with the innate 30% chance to freeze from Cold Snap because of how fast you're casting. Ice Bite is just to generate Frenzy Charges. Last edited by MejickPuf#7409 on Aug 25, 2015, 12:08:48 PM

Can you post your leveling gear?
|
|
I think you can still get a large damage boost by running running a curse via blasphemy, then EB for casting, and then putting in support for Herald of Ice.
|
|
This build was made for 2.0 when Blasphemy wasn't a thing. I don't know if I'm going to update this because I'm not currently playing it.
Thanks for the advice. |
