Combination of Split Arrow + Cast on Critical + Chain + Ethereal Knives

So I had the idea to combine these gems. But I do not have a Ranger with high crit and a CoC with high probability to trigger.
Could someone of you please check out, how this works?

Basically, I think it's pretty cool that Chain affects Split Arrow and EK. But there are some open questions:

* Does EK trigger for each chaining event of each arrow in case of a critical strike?
* In which direction does the triggered EK go? Just parallel to the direction of the flying arrow (these directions can be very diverse while chaining) or towards the next enemy?

If the mechanic works well, I will try out a Ranger with a lot of increased projectile damage, projectile speed and physical damage, since these nodes affect both the arrows and EK.

Thanks. Really nice to see that. But in his crit build videos he does not seem to use Chain. That's what interests me the most. I will resort to his thread now.

edit: Another variant, I thought of, would be Tornado Shot + GMP + Ice Spear + CoC. Interestingly, someone else did that, too: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1200166

And one can clearly see, that Ice Spear originates from the player, which makes my second question irrelevant. Looks pretty effective, though.

With chain it can proc CoC each crit made, and it originates from the player. Projectile speed is important for the EK and had balistic mastery and projectile speed on my quiver. I did a build in ambush that revolved around this and it was pretty effective.
