[1.3] Reflecting Marauder tank LLD PvP

Overview

This build was inspired by me getting my ass handed to me over and over again in patch 1.2 when I was starting to get into Low Level Duelling. The build focuses on survivability and uses your opponents strenght to turn your character into a Weapon of Mass Reflection.

Pro's
- Very strong against all kinds of high melee physical damage characters
- Cheap, no need for 5 or 6 links and expensive uniques
- High survivability
- Excellent flag carrier in Capture the Flag
- No mana issues

Con's
- Long games
- People will not like you
- Worthless against elemental damage

Passive tree

Notable stats
80% increased maximum life
56 increased flat life
6,8% increased life regen
130 strength

With this passive tree we can easily achieve over 2000 hitpoints. This means that without any aura's or rejuvination totems our passive life regen will be at 130 – 140 life per second.

In patch 1.2 I picked up the “bloodless” cluster to avoid players from leeching health, but in 1.3 the path between “master of the arena” and “path of the gladiator” is alot more beneficial for the build. Most LLD builds rely on Life Gain on Hit instead of life leech anyways.

Skillgems and links
Spoiler
Curses

Spoiler
Arc – Curse on hit – Punishment – Vulnerability

This is our main source of damage! Curse on hit and Arc allow us to curse our target with 2 curses in 1 hit. Punishment reflects a % of physical damage back to the attacker and Vulnerability increases the effect of punishment by increasing our target's physical damage taken.

20% Quality required on Curse on Hit, Punishment and Vulnerability for maximum efficiency.

Double strike

Spoiler

Double strike – Multistrike – Life gain on hit – Blood magic

Double strike with multistrike will hit your enemy 6 times in rapid succession. Combined with Life gain on hit this will add another layer of survivability.

20% Quality on LgoH gives you 26 life per hit.

Utility

Spoiler
Smoke mine – Rejuvination totem – Increased duration – Blood magic

Smoke mine is a must to get out of tricky situations. Rejuvination totem grants some extra life regen and serves as a decoy versus flicker strike.

Molten shell

Spoiler

Molten shell – Fire penetration – Iron Will – blood magic

Another form of reflected damage. Since we are stacking Strenght on gear we are using Iron Will.
This can catch an unsuspecting enemy off guard.

Auras

Spoiler
Vitality – Tempest shield – Blind

Vitality gives us another 0,75% life regen and tempest shield + blind gives a chance to blind our attacker.

Counter - attacks
Spoiler
Riposte – Vengeance – Reckoning

All 3 of those work since we are using a 1-hander and shield.

Culling

Spoiler
Flicker strike – Culling strike

Most players will be around 10 to 20% hp before they realise what's going on. To get a finishing blow you will want to use flicker strike to catch up to them linked with culling strike to finish them off.

Gear
Spoiler
There are 2 uniques required for this build to work. Both of them are pretty accessible.
The first one is a Bramblejack plate vest and the other is Doedre's damning paua ring.

Bramblejack grants an extra 40% melee physical reflection and Doedre's damning allows dual curses.

Another unique that fits this build is a legacy Crest of perandus pine buckler but isn't required.
Ideally you'll also want a Springleaf plank kite shield on your weapon swap in case you get on low life.

The last unique that fits this build is a meginord's girdle heavy belt. The strenght, maximum life% and flat physical damage greatly increases this build's performance.

All other armor slots can be filled with rares.
These are the stats you should be looking for:
1. Life (60+)
2. Strenght (20+)
3. Resistances (enough to get you capped)
4. Flat life regen (3+)

Other nice stats:
Flat physical damage
Intellect (so you can use the curse on hit and vulnerability gems)
Mana

For your weapon you'll want one with high attack speed and long range, ideally a jagged foil.

Playstyle
Spoiler
Make sure your auras are activated, throw down a rejuvenation totem and put a smoke mine close to it. After activating your molten shell you are now ready to wander into the arena.

As soon as you see your target try to get your curses up with Arc and after that you just sit back and watch him kill himself on your tankiness.

Finishing blow with flicker strike when needed.

Retreating with smoke mine back to your rejuv totem when needed.
