@GGG: Botting Countermeasures?

So a few friends got me to play D2 again with them recently, and that made me do a little thinking: specifically about the things that screwed D2 up.

The big three are botting, duping and non-consensual pvp (usually involving hacks - TPPK etc.).

Number three is definitely covered by GGG already.

Number two is something I'd like to presume has already been taken care of too.

So that brings me to botting, which I think would be by far the biggest threat and concern, especially given PoE's free to play nature. Given that bots not only destroy there being any hope of a fair economy but they also sap precious, precious server resources I think that the issue is king of a big deal.

Since you guys don't have the option of doing Blizzard's main strategy of being incredibly reactive and just banning offending CD Keys every six-months to a year (which isn't a helpful strategy for actually keeping the economy balanced anyway) I guess I was wondering how much effort (if any) has been put into the prevention of such. Is it on the to-do list? Is this sort of thing considered an issue, etc?

More randomization, no easy to do. easy to get and always appearing and good rewarding mobs like d2 pindle, and/or some cooldown on instances to not let bots replay some area on and on should make botting pretty hard.

Botting will eventually happen. It sucks but it will. I think most botters will go for DIII because now they can sell items for cash a bit easier. It will be a year or two before a bot comes out I hope.

Just play hardcore mode. I don't think its as easy to grind in this game either so bots can get 1 hit a bit more easily. I don't think the bots would last too long in hardcore mode.

We plan on stopping them with lazors. Also cut throat league :P


As im aware though we have a way of stopping it. We wont announce it however otherwise people will know what it is.
Im not a programmer however so I have no idea.

Russel, can you clarifty on one point?
Is it Reactive, Preventative, or Detection?

I don't know your plan but i'am quite sure that it involves crabs and lobsters.
